Meet Whitney
In South Louisiana, where the Mississippi River is my backyard and my ancestors’ stories linger in the soil, I see ceramics as a way to honor that history. The phrase “Get it out the mud” inspires my work—not just as a nod to my personal perseverance, but as a literal connection to the earth. For me, working with clay is about redefining and reclaiming the beauty of the messiest parts of life through patience and effort.
I often try to incorporate clay collected from the riverbanks of the Mississippi and Louisiana soil into my pieces. The rich texture speaks to the depth of our land’s history and blends uniquely with stoneware. The process is timely but —each stage from sketching to building feels like an act of discovery and transformation.
I hope my pieces inspire people to slow down and cherish the beauty of handmade work, in a world that often overlooks the value of craftsmanship. Ceramics doesn’t require perfection—it requires patience, personality, and the ability to embrace and appreciate what emerges from the process.
